“Red Dawn” Villains Changed From Chinese to North Korean

The Los Angeles Times reports that MGM is changing the villains in Red Dawn from Chinese to North Korean in order to maintain access to the country’s lucrative box office.

Dan Bradley directed the remake, which stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The studio is currently looking for a distributor to release the film.

The newspaper says the changes will cost less than $1 million and will “involve changing an opening sequence summarizing the story’s fictional backdrop, re-editing two scenes and using digital technology to transform many Chinese symbols to Korean.” They added that it will be impossible to eliminate all references to China in the movie.

“We were initially very reluctant to make any changes,” said producer Tripp Vinson, “But after careful consideration we constructed a way to make a scarier, smarter and more dangerous ‘Red Dawn’ that we believe improves the movie.”

“MGM has been working with the film ‘Red Dawn’s’ director and producers to make the most commercially viable version of the film for audiences worldwide,” said Mike Vollman, executive vice president of worldwide marketing. “We want to ensure the most people possible are able to experience it.”

In Red Dawn, an American city awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.

Adrianne Palicki to Play Wonder Woman in NBC Pilot

The “Friday Night Lights” star will play the lead in David E. Kelley’s reinvention of the iconic DC Comics character.

Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki is the new Wonder Woman.

The actress has been cast as the title character in Wonder Woman, David E. Kelley’s pilot for NBC.

The project, from David E. Kelley Prods. and Warner Bros. TV — is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman, a.k.a. Diana Prince, is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.

Kelley and Bill D’Elia (Boston Legal, The Practice) are executive producing. The pilot was written by Kelley and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (The Event).

Palicki, who appeared as Tyra Collete in the NBC/DirecTV series Friday Night Lights, stars in the upcoming Red Dawn. Her most recent series regular role was Fox’s short-lived Texas-set drama Lone Star, which aired only two episodes last fall.

Palicki is repped by UTA, Anonymous Content and attorney David Fox.

“Red Dawn” focuses on a group of teenagers looking to save their town from an invasion of Chinese and Russian soldiers. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Adrianne Palicki To Headline Killer ‘Criminal Minds’ Episode

In her first gig since the swift cancellation of the praised Fox drama Lone Star, Adrianne Palicki has signed on to guest-star in an episode of Criminal Minds that pays homage to Oliver Stone’s seminal criminal satire Natural Born Killers.

Palicki will play Syd, a tough, irreverent and sexually manipulative lunatic who sets out on a cross country killing spree with her badass sociopath husband Ray (The Black Donnellys’ Jonathan Tucker). Like Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis’ characters in Killers, Syd and Ray were both victims of childhood abuse.

The episode is slated to air in early ’11.

Adrianne talks Tim/Tyra and Connie’s Emmy nod

Ausiello: I asked Adrianne Palicki—star of Fox’s near-perfect fall drama Lone Star—about rumors of a Tim/Tyra reunion in season 5, and here’s what she told me: “I think if anybody ends up together it should be them. They’re so right for each other. They’re the same.” I tend to agree with her. Palicki and I also see eye to eye when it comes to costar Connie Britton’s long-overdue Emmy nomination. For her thoughts on that, and scoop on FNL‘s wrap parties (plural), press play below.
